Kigaluk Chisasibi

Kigaluk means “muskrat” in Inuktitut and is the landholding corporation for the Inuit community of Chisasibi. The Kigaluk Landholding Corporation of Chisasibi is the only Inuit landholding corporation located outside Nunavik in Cree territory. It was established in 1979.

Chisasibi, meaning "great river" in Cree, was established in the early 1980s following the closure and relocation of the former community of Fort George. The original village was located approximately 10 kilometres west of present-day Chisasibi, on Fort George Island, at the mouth of the La Grande River. Chisasibi is accessible by road and is located about 100 km from Radisson.
