Pituvik Inukjuak

Pituvik means "a place to connect” in Inuktitut and is the landholding corporation for the community of Inukjuak. The Pituvik Landholding Corporation of Inukjuak was established in 1979.

Inukjuak, meaning "the giant" in Inuktitut, is located on the bank of the Innuksuak River. This river is now home to the Innavik Hydro Project, a medium-scale (7.5 MW) run-of-river hydroelectric facility developed by the Pituvik Landholding Corporation of Inukjuak.

Completed in 2024, the Innavik project has replaced diesel-generated electricity in Inukjuak, significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels. The clean energy produced by the facility is expected to meet the community’s power needs and support its growth for the next 40 years.

Projects

Innavik Hydro Project

The Innavik Hydroelectric Project is a 7.5 MW run-of-river generating facility that has supplied renewable electricity to the community of Inukjuak since 2023, significantly reducing the community's reliance on diesel-generated power.

The project was initiated in 2008 by the Pituvik Landholding Corporation, which continues to play a leading role in ensuring the project benefits the community of Inukjuak. In 2014, Pituvik LHCpartnered with Innergex Renewable Energy, whose expertise in the development, financing, construction, and operation of renewable energy facilities has been instrumental in bringing the project to completion.

The Innavik Project reflects the community's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while fostering sustainable development in Nunavik's second-largest community. Beyond its environmental benefits, the project generates long-term economic and social value for Inukjuak.

Project revenues are reinvested in initiatives that support community well-being, including programs for children, youth, and Elders, the preservation of traditional Inuit lifestyles, educational opportunities, and local economic development.
