Qaqqalik Salluit

Qaqqalik means “the place of many mountains” in Inuktitut and is the landholding corporation for the community of Salluit. Qaqqalik Landholding Corporation of Salluit was established in 1979.

Salluit meaning "the thin ones” in Inuktitut is located about 10 km from the Hudson Strait. Situated at the midpoint of Nunavik’s 14 communities, Salluit serves as an important regional hub for both meetings and air transportation, connecting communities along the Hudson and Ungava coasts.

Nuvumiut Developments Inc.

Nuvumiut Developments was established in 1996 through a partnership between the Nunaturlik Landholding Corporation of Kangiqsujuaq and the Qaqqalik Landholding Corporation of Salluit to develop business opportunities related to the mining industry and create economic benefits for their communities.

Since its creation, Nuvumiut has established partnerships with several companies providing services to the mining sector, including BQE Water, Blais Industries, Redpath, Norfil, RJLL, Kiewit, and ESS. Through these collaborations, Nuvumiut supports Inuit participation in mining-related activities and contributes to economic development and employment opportunities for the communities of Kangiqsujuaq and Salluit.

Services

Office Complex

Located at 1306 Imiqtavik Street in Salluit, the Qaqqalik Office Complex serves as the headquarters of the Qaqqalik Landholding Corporation. The facility provides modern office space for the corporation, as well as professional workspaces available for lease. It also includes a fully equipped conference room featuring simultaneous interpretation and audiovisual equipment.

The building also houses the itinerant court, making it an important location for administrative and professional services in the community.

Garage Services and Heavy Machinery Rental

Qaqqalik Landholding Corporation provides a range of services and resources to support local and regional organizations in Salluit.

Through its garage services, Qaqqalik offers light and heavy vehicle repair services, as well as maintenance support for various types of equipment. The Corporation also owns a wide range of heavy machinery available for rental to support construction projects and other activities requiring specialized equipment.

Qaqqalik also produces crushed gravel for construction and infrastructure needs. Through these services, the Corporation contributes to local economic development and supports the needs of projects and activities in Salluit.
